À peine quelques jours après le dernier rendez-vous à Donington Park, c’est du côté de Monterey en Californie que Loris Baz a repris la piste vendredi matin.

Pour cette neuvième escale du calendrier sur le mythique circuit de Laguna Seca, le Français n’a pas tardé à s’immiscer aux avant-postes.

Pointé en huitième position au terme de la séance d’ouverture, le Haut-Savoyard a gagné plus de six dixièmes sur son temps de référence l’après-midi pour se hisser au sixième rang de la hiérarchie à une demi-seconde du leader.

Avec un tour en 1’23.925, Loris Baz conclut la journée avec le statut de meilleur pilote Yamaha et indépendant. Une performance qui avait de quoi le ravir en vue de la Superpole prévue à samedi à partir de 11h (20h, heure de Paris).

Loris Baz (6e – 1’23.925) : « Encore une très bonne journée ! Je suis content, car c’est un circuit qui ne m’a jamais vraiment convenu par le passé, même si j’ai toujours adoré y courir. Nous avons réalisé une belle entrée en matière ce matin. Après quoi, nous sommes restés bloqués sur un rythme que je n’arrivais pas à améliorer. Nous avons alors décidé de changer quelques settings sur la moto en vue de la FP2. Nous sommes repartis dans une bonne dynamique et nous avons compris certaines choses. J’ai réussi à entretenir un bon rythme dans les dernières minutes. Il y a encore des détails à peaufiner, la course est longue et le grip est très particulier sur ce tracé. Toujours est-il que, petit à petit, nous continuons d’appréhender cette moto. Je suis impatient d’être samedi. Notre objectif sera de figurer une fois de plus parmi les six premiers, ce qui serait de bon augure pour la première manche. »

Only a few days after the last round at Donington Park, Loris Baz was back in action on Friday morning close to Monterey in California.

For the ninth round of the championship on the legendary circuit of Laguna Seca, the French rider did not take long to find himself a place in the front.

Eighth in the opening session, the Haut Savoyard gained more than six tenths in the afternoon to move up to sixth overall, half a second from the leader.

With his 1’23.925 lap time, Loris Baz finished the day off with the status of a top Yamaha rider and first independent team, a performance which gave him a reason to be happy ahead of Superpole, starting at 11 o’clock on Saturday (8 pm CET).

Loris Baz (6^th – 1’23.925): “We had another really good day! I am happy because this circuit did not really suit me in the past, although I have always enjoyed riding here. We made a good start this morning but then we got into certain rhythm that we were not able to improve so we decided to change a few things on the bike for FP2. We went out with good dynamics and understood certain things. I was able to maintain a good rhythm in the final minutes. There are still some details we need to tune, the race is long and grip is very tricky on this circuit. However, it is still the case that step by step we continue to understand this bike. I can’t wait for Saturday. Our objective will be to get into the Top-6 once again which would place us well for the first race.”
